App Review: Dropbox
If you are running out of Disk space on your idevice or simply just want to share a photo that you just took, with your friends or family, Dropbox would be one of the very best solution available out there for you.
Simply, go to iTunes app store and download it. But in order to use this app, you have to create a Dropbox account first. You can do that either from your computer or from your iDevice. Once logged in to your account, you can start uploading your files. Sharing any file with anyone is as simple as sending an email. Dropbox will add the URL of the file on your email automatically.
Dropbox will let you upload 2GB worth of data from any source. It could be from your idevices or from your computer. Basic 2GB package is absolutely free but if you want to upgrade there are options for you as well, you can get 50GB of space for $9.99 or 100GB of space for $19.99 per month.
It’s not necessary to install Dropbox application on your computer as you can do most of the thing from your web browser. However, installing desktop application will give you some extra features like “drag & drop” functionality and one click upload system. This application will create a folder on your local hard drive where you can store files that you want to upload on your Dropbox account. It will synchronize all the files with your online storing place and will let you access them from your idevices.
Dropbox app for your idevice does support various popular file format. Starting from your images, text, PDF to MS Word document, you name it. For better security system you can even use this little app to store sensitive files on you idevice locally with a four digit passcode. Another great feature of this app is it’s “Favorites” option. You can mark any file as your favorite which will let you access those files even on offline mode.
The GUI of this app is very clean and pretty much straight forward. There are no disturbing ads on this app. Personally, using Dropbox app both on my iPhone & iPad was a pleasing experience. Best part of all was being able to access my files from normal EDGE connection. This app is as simple as it can get on it’s own category. A must have app for anyone who wants to keep their important files handy, even when you are on the move.
