Opera is already a popular name in mobile web browser world. Whether you are thinking of iOS or Android platform, Opera is there. Opera Software, the company behind this successful web browser has recently announced that they will release yet another web browser which is being called as “Ice”. This browser would also be available for most popular mobile OS platform for both smartphones and tablet devices by February.
Pocket-lint recently released an internal video of “all-hands” meeting that took place before the Christmas. On that meeting Opera demonstrated their upcoming mobile web browser which features an icon-based interface which is very much like the desktop version of Safari browser for Apple and Google’s Chrome browser. However, this mobile browser app is still in beta stage. So, it is still too early to say how exactly it is going to perform in real life.
“We need to focus on getting strong products out on iOS and Android. These are the two leading platforms we will focus on… They are the ones phones are being sold for,” Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera. He also added that, “We need to go into a new phase, we need to lift our games on certain areas to ensure we continue to grow,”
It is being expected that this mobile web browser would be based on WebKit instead of Presto platform. It is the same engine being used on Apple and Google’s own browser. However, let’s not forget that Opera is not treating their upcoming mobile web browser as a replacement for another mobile solution which is known as Opera mini. Rather this new browser would be used to generate more users who want to migrate to Opera Ice from another mobile browsers like Chrome or native Safari browsers. You can expect the desktop version of this browser by March.
