Motorola to Introduce Intel Atom Powered Smartphones and Tablets
On a Press Release published on yesterday, Intel has confirmed that they had entered into a Multi-year, multi-device strategic relationship with Motorola. As a part of the deal Motorola will manufacture Intel’s Atom Processor powered Smartphones and Tablets for Android platform.
It’s being expected that the first batch of such Smartphones will be available later this year by Motorola. However, in terms of the Tablets, it’s not quite clear when it might come out as neither Intel nor Motorola said anything clearly about it’s ETA.
Our long-term relationship with Motorola Mobility will help accelerate Intel® architecture into new mobile market segments. We expect the combination of our companies to break new ground and bring the very best of computing capabilities to smartphones and tablets, which in turn will help to create powerful new experiences that connect and enrich people’s lives wherever they may be.
said Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini. It’s quite interesting to see that Intel is attempting to launch it’s Atom processor for Mobile devices for the second time. Back in 2010, Intel had more or less the same Partnership with LG which ended up with no result.
Intel has also confirmed that it’s Z2460 Processor(Part of Atom family) will be used on these upcoming mobile devices. The clock speed of this Processor is 1.6Ghz which has an integrated dual channel memory controller offering fast momory read/write performance through efficient pre-fetching algorithms, low latency and high memory bandwidth. It will also support LPDDR2 400MHz memory technology up to 1GB. This Processor was made based on “system-on-chip” design.
Intel has already built a Prototype of this device which can deliver right hours of 3G voice calls, six hours of 1080p video decoding or five hours of 3G internet browsing. In terms of the battery life of this device, Intel’s Ultra Mobility Groups general Manager Mike Bell said,”Battery life on this platform is not the best in the mobile market, but it is by far not the worst.”
