Today Microsoft and Chinese telecommunications company Huawei announced yet another Windows Phone 8 OS based smartphone. This phone is specifically designed for African consumer market and would be known as Huawei 4Afrika. This phone would be released under the Microsoft 4Afrika Initiative that the company officially introduced yesterday.

Earlier this year, Huawei introduced Ascend W1 at CES which is also a Windows powered smartphone but it was made for the global consumer market. Ascend W1 is currently available in blue, red, black and white color in Russia and in Asia. However, very soon this phone would be available worldwide.

There is a front and rear facing camera as well. The internal storage capacity of this device is only 4GB but you would have the option to extend the capacity using micro SD (up to 32GB) card. You can also expect Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 on this device.

If you are to talk about one of the very best feature of this device, then you must mention its 420 hours of standby time which is easily one of the best among all other smartphones on this category. It features a massive 1950 mAh battery that powers this device.

This phone would also come with custom apps which are also created by African developers and feature a market-specific store within the Windows Phone Store for downloading apps.

“We believe there has never been a better time to invest in Africa and that access to technology—particularly cloud services and smart devices—can and will serve as a great accelerator for African competitiveness,” Jean-Philippe Courtois, president of Microsoft International, noted today in a statement.
