Ever since Dropbox was founded back in 2007, it never had to look back. The popularity of this web based file hosting services provider has grown couple of fold over the past couple of years. However, new competitors are emerging every now and then. There is no doubt that Dropbox is taking a huge toll for the growing competition. With the development of recent mobile technologies and increasing amount of mobile internet usage has played a crucial role on Dropbox’s success.
Popular mobile operating systems like Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android users are in love with Dropbox just because of it’s simple app implementation. Providing its users a wide range of functionalities, Dropbox has created its own place among a large number of audience, especially for the people who are constantly on the move and would like to share their files with others.
Now, the problem with the Dropbox is it provides only 2GB of disk space for any free account holder. Even though they have few other pricing options available but a large number of Dropbox’s users are individual person who most probably won’t need more than 2GB of disk space if they are sharing regular word, excel or PDF files. But problem occurs when you want more than that or may be if you want to share your music or video files with others.
Well, Dropbox is extending their helping hands to give you more space for free. However, it comes at a price. A price that you need to pay by referring your friends or family members to open up a new Dropbox account.
Yesterday, I got an email from Dropbox where they stated, “You can now earn twice as much free space by inviting your friends! For each friend that installs Dropbox, you’ll both get 500 MB of free space. You can earn up to 16 GB.”
This is pretty much self-explanatory. All you have to do is to login to your existing Dropbox account and invite your friends who didn’t join to Dropbox yet. You can literally invite anyone with an email address. Just click on “Get free space!” link from the top right hand corner of the window and from the new page, just add email address of your friends. As soon as your friend creates a new account and downloads the Dropbox software on their computer, Dropbox will add 500 MB of extra disk space with your current allocated disk space based on your account type.
Please remember that Dropbox will give you approx. 16 GB extra space, which also means that you need 32 people to join and download Drobpox to get the most out of this referral program. From the account settings, you can check the status of your invitations. 500 MB of extra disk space would be automatically added to your account after every (referral) successful account activation.
I think this referral program is simply superb, especially for those people who need lots of online disk space. So, if you are one of them go ahead and give it a shot.
