AMD Graphics Processor Powers Nintendo Wii U

Today on a press release, microprocessor manufacturer AMD has confirmed that their Radeon HD GPU technology is being used on newly introduced home console Nintendo Wii U. Back in 2011, AMD announced their possible partnership with Nintendo at E3.
Nintendo Wii UAMD has supplied custom made Radeon graphics processor to Nintendo which is capable of playing HD videos and render complex game graphics. AMD also states that since 2001, well over 118 million Nintendo Wii and GameCube hardware units have used their technology.

“Our relationship with Nintendo is the next exciting chapter in the long AMD history of supplying the game console market with our elite graphics expertise,” said Saeid Moshkelani, corporate vice president and general manager, Semi-Custom Business Unit, AMD. “Working so closely with Nintendo to create the ideal custom graphics processor for Wii U is another example of how AMD stands for giving consumers the best video entertainment and gaming experience – whether that’s a next-generation console, desktop and notebook PC, big screen HDTV or tablet.

AMD believes that their GPU will help Nintendo to bring more franchises into HD with innovative game play experiences. On the other hand Nintendo expects that their new Wii U GamePad controller will offer a completely new gaming experience to its gaming console fans.
