Jailbreak iOS 5.1 on A4 Devices Using Sn0wbreeze – Tethered Mode

Only couple of days back Apple introduced their brand new iPad 3 on it’s Media event. Same day, apple also released the final version of their latest iOS 5.1 mobile operating system for other iOS devices which is already available through the built in software update system on your iDevice.

iOS 5.1 Tethered JailbreakLess than a week later, today we just got to know that the tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 for all A4 devices are out there and ready for some action. Now, if you don’t know what’s A4 devices that’s a totally a different question to talk about but here is the bottom line. A4 devices includes iPhone 4, iPad first generation, iPod Touch 4th generation and Apple TV 2nd generation where as iPhone 4s, iPad 2 and Apple TV 3rd generation belongs to A5 category devices.

So, this new jailbreak applies only for A4 devices and it’s in tethered mode which also means, you need to follow this procedure every time your re-start your device, no matter whatever the reason is. Works for you? is that what you are looking for? then go ahead and read the rest of this post.

Follow these Steps Carefully:

Step 1: Download the latest iOS 5.1 for your A4 device.

Step 2: Download the latest version of Sn0wbreeze and launch the application.

Step 3: From the main window, click the blue arrow in the bottom right hand corner to continue.
Step 4: It will give you the option to browse for *.ipsw (iOS 5.1) file. Select the appropriate version for your device.
Step 5: If the choose the correct firmware file, Sn0wbreeze will process it briefly before displaying a page which shows a firmware verification message.
Step 6: At this point Sn0wbreeze will give you a number of options. If you are planning on performing an unlock on iPhone 4 or 3GS (old basebands only), then select “Expert Mode” followed by the blue continue arrow.
Step 7: The next screen will present a number of options to cater for all usage types. If you are not sure about what all the options does but all you want is a simple jailbreak and Cydia installation, then select “Build IPSW” and click on the blue continue arrow.
Step 8: At this point Sn0wbreeze will create a custom pwned iOS 5.1 firmware file. When completed, a confirmation screen will be presented with the successful completion of the process.
Step 9: Next step would be putting your device in DFU mode. When Sn0wbreeze detects DFU mode, the device’s screen will be black and a confirmation prompt will be shown.
Step 10: Now, the custom created firmware will be loaded onto your iDevice. Open iTunes with the device still in DFU mode and click on the device name in the left hand side bar of iTunes. Hold down SHIFT and press the restore option in the window to bring up a directory search prompt. Find the custom created IPSW and double click to select. The process will be same for any official iTunes based restore and when completed, the device will be loaded with a pre-jailbroken firmware.

You are pretty much done with the iOS 5.1 installation part. Now, I mentioned earlier that it’s a tethered jailbreak system so we need to start our device with a special utility software. Follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Download iBooty for iPhone 4 GSM model if don’t have it. Launch it, once done with the installation. Select the appropriate device model from the drop down menu and click on “Start” button.

Step 2: Processing will begin immediately and it will show you message to put your device on DFU mode again. Follow the on screen instructions.
Step 3: iBooty will take little more time to finish it’s job. Wait, until it shows any completion message.
