On our earlier post, we confirmed that our site will go offline for 24 hours to protest SOPA and PIPA bill. If you are an WordPress site owner and also planning to do the same but wondering how exactly you can do that without changing any directory of your site, this is the post for you. I am not going to take whole lots of time talking about it, so lets get it pretty straight.
You can blackout your WordPress site using a very simple plugin that I just found it to be really useful. It’s called “SOPA Blackout” which you can download from here for free. It’s really simple and easy to use. I already tested this plugin on my local server and it worked fine without any problem.
Now, all you have to do is, download this plugin and install it. Rest could be done within couple of mouse clicks. You can do it either automatically or manually.
How to do it Automatically?
Step 1: Simply go to the “Plugins” menu and click on “Add New”.
Step 2: From the search box, type “Sopa Blackout” and hit “Search Plugins” button. You will find so many of them.
Step 3: Find the correct one(I mentioned already) and install it.
Step 4: Once installed and activated go to the “Settings” menu and click on “SOPA Blackout”. Do the necessary changes and save it.
How to do it Manually?
Step 1: Click here and download the Plugin.
Step 2: Unzip the folder and upload it to “wp-content/plugins” directory of your site.
Step 3: Log in to your WordPress site and go to “Plugins” menu.
Step 4: Find “SOPA Blackout” plugin and activate it.
Step 5: Once activated, go to the “Settings” menu and click on “SOPA Blackout”. Do the adjustments and save it.
Your are pretty much good to go. Set the time based on wherever you are(time zone) and show your Protest through your WordPress site.
