A hacker who goes with the name “Hannibal“, has recently released over 100,000 Arab Facebook user’s account log in information in Online. On Saturday he made those information available through various download links. In that very post he also wrote, “I have about 30 million email accounts, 10 million bank accounts, 4 million cerdit cards of Arabs from all over the world.”
From his note, it’s pretty much clear that he claims himself to be a defender of the state of Israel and a “general of Israel’s hackers”. Many believes that it was response to “OxOmar”, who said that he belongs to Saudi hacking gang Group-XP. Earlier in January, OxOmar claimed to have leaked the banking details of 400,000 Israelis. But the Israeli bank argued that most of the data was either out-of-date or duplicate and that only 14,000 card records were exposed. OxOmar who is also known as Omar Cohen, did not publish the CVC, the three-digit code on the back of the cards which is required to make online purchase.
Pro-Israeli Hannibal said, “I post this 100k accounts list because I want show the my huge strength. The Arabs should learn a lesson and know not to mess with me.”
However, Facebook officials said last week that one of the releases has less than a third of the credentials were valid, and half were not associated with Facebook accounts. According to their statement, ”This does not represent a hack of Facebook or anyone’s Facebook profiles,”.
Hannibal also warned the Arab hackers saying, “If they appear again, I again come to save Israel. Trust me. I’ll always be around.”
So, regardless the region you are living in, if you have a Facebook account, we think it would be a really smart decision to change your password immediately. Stay tuned for the latest developments on this issue.
Update: Hannibal has removed all the files from his thread. Earlier we posted the link of his thread but it seems like it does not exist anymore. (http://pastebin.com/CWWRgD1t).
