Google is Dropping Seven more of it’s Products

Google Wave LogoOver the last couple of years, Google has introduced so many of it’s Products. However, not all of them has got the same popularity. In fact, for the third time Google has announced to drop off some of it’s Products which Google defines as “haven’t had the impact we’d hoped for.”

Regardless the Growing Popularity of Google+, some of Google’s Products like Knol, Wave, Gears, Friend Connect etc. are going to be discontinued soon. On a recent Blog Post Google has confirmed this news and also Provided the list of all those Applications.

“We’re in the process of shutting a number of products which haven’t had the impact we’d hoped for, integrating others as features into our broader product efforts, and ending several which have shown us a different path forward,” said Urs Holzle, Google’s vice president of operations.

Here is the list of Confirmed Google Products (Some of them are discontinued already):

  • Google Bookmarks List: An experimental service by Google which allowed Users to share their Bookmarks with any one. Ended on December 19, 2011
  • Google Friend Connect: Webmaster’s tool to add social features on their Web site by embedding Snippet code. It’s going to end by March 1, 2012.
  • Google Gears: It was an effort to maintain web browser functionality when working offline. Ended on December 1, 2011.
  • Google Search Timeline:  The graph of historical results for a query.
  • Google Wave: This was a Great initiative by Google to combine email and instant messaging for real-time collaboration. Will end by April 30, 2012.
  • Knol: More like an Wikipedia style approach to Improve web content. It will end by April 30, 2012. However, migration process will remain active from May 1 through October 1, 2012.
  • Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal: It was a Project which was aimed to find ways to improve solar power. Popularly known as RE<C. It has been abandoned by Google lately. However, Google promises to continue their effort by Investing over 850 million in renewable energy technologies.

Some experts think that Google is shrinking it’s Product line in order to concentrate on its Facebook rival Google+.The Google+ network has gained over 10 million users within the first 16 days after its launch, and over 40 million within the first 100 days, making it the fastest-growing social network in the history of the web.
