Finally, Apple has admitted the overheating issue related with the iPod nano(first generation). It also stated that overheating may pose a safety risk to it’s user. These faulty devices were sold between September 2005 and December 2006. An unknown supplier has been identified who produced these batteries with manufacturing defect.
Apple recommended it’s user to stop using these faulty device & to order a replacement unit from this page. However, you need to provide the serial number of your device to figure out whether you are eligible to participate in this program or not. Somehow, even if you are eligible it will take approximately six weeks to get the replacement unit after they receive your old device.

Apple also suggesting it’s users to backup the data of their iPod nano before sending it for replacement.
